What is an ophthalmologist?
In layman terms, an ophthalmologist is an eye doctor. In this medical profession you will deal exclusively with the parts of the body that are related to the visual pathways. Some ophthalmologist may have a particular specialty like eye problems in children, diseases of the retina, cornea, along with vitreous diseases, glaucoma, etc. When you become an ophthalmologist you will have either a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.
